With a community-based approach, our programs are open to UVic students and the general public, with advanced participants working alongside beginners.
We offer a variety of martial arts taught by experienced instructors who integrate discipline, precision, power, and self-defense into every lesson. Classes include but are not limited to: Aikido, Kendo, Wing Chun Kung Fu, Shotokan Karate, Shorinji Ryu Karate, Judo, Fencing, Fitness Boxing, Women’s Self Defence and Women’s Fitness Kickboxing as well as kid’s programs.

Evolving from traditional samurai arts, Aikido is a non-violent Japanese martial art that emphasizes harmony and neutralizing conflict. It focuses on redirecting an opponent's energy rather than overpowering them. Aikido techniques involve joint locks, throws, and immobilizations, utilizing the principle of "ki" or energy. Not dependent on physical size or strength, it promotes personal growth and peaceful resolution.

A sport martial art and system of self-defense. This cornerstone of mixed martial arts training was originally designed to allow a smaller person to defend against a larger, stronger attacker in a realistic manner. Intended for non-UVic Students and community members looking to learn the basics of fencing. For those with little or no fencing experience. Learn the basics of the sport, including movement, grip, positioning & drills. You will train alongside other levels of fencing participants. Some fencing foil types and gear provided.
Please note: Children under the age of 16 will require the approval of the instructors.

Learn more about the sweet science of boxing! This program uses boxing wraps, gloves, skipping ropes and general calisthenics to get your heart rate soaring. Learn the proper stance, while developing your footwork and hand eye coordination all while getting an excellent workout! Participants will train with various drills using ropes, body weight training, and working with focus pads. Must have 16oz gloves, skipping rope and hand wraps.
Requirements: All participants must have 16oz gloves, wraps and a skipping rope. We have partnered with a local provider should you require the aforementioned gear. Package for new gloves, wraps and a rope is $55 and can be added on to the program if necessary.

Previous boxing experience is required. This class is best suited to those with a basic understading of the sport of boxing or those who want a more physically and mentally challenging experience. This class will focus on the base of your boxing skills and the conditioning required for the sport. This includes mitt work with partners, partner drills, improving your defense (blocking/head movement), footwork training, and conditioning for boxing cardio. Those seeking a significant improvement to their boxing arsenal or a challenging sports experience should look here. Must have 16oz gloves, skipping rope and hand wraps.

YOUTH WELCOME
This beginner judo class will focus on competitive preparation including randori, drills and technical instruction. Instruction will be delivered by NCCP certified coaches experienced in Judo competition. No minimum Rank. The beginners to judo but intermediate or advanced level in other grappling sports, including judo can join the program upon head instructor’s approval.

Transform your safety skills with our comprehensive Self-Defense program, suitable for all skill levels. Our program combines traditional martial arts with real-world tactics where you will gain confidence and learn practical, effective techniques quickly with guidance from our experienced instructors. Popularized by Bruce Lee, this Chinese martial art is simple, quick, effective & economical. The complete art can be learned in less than six months. Open to all levels. Beginners welcome!
