Job description
Under the direction of the Coordinator, Climbing Wall, Climbing Gym Instructors assume the lead in the facilitation of climbing programs and services offered through the CARSA Climbing Centre. This group bookings, registered programs, lessons, birthdays and adaptive climbing programs. We expect our climbing gym instructors to provide leadership and instruction while ensuring a safe and enjoyable climbing experience for all participants.
Overview of duties
- Provide safe climbing instruction including basic climbing movement, belay skills, other techniques
- Supervise groups ranging from children to adults with a wide variety of ability levels
- Belaying for large groups using a mechanical assist braking device
- Always ensure the safety of clients by monitoring the Climbing Centre’s rules of conduct
- Administer Assumption of Risk and Waiver of Liability forms to climbing participants
- Administer Top Rope Belay Tests and provide new customers with Facility Safety Orientations
- Maintaining the cleanliness of the facility
- Manage all equipment necessary for the set up and take down for each program
- Ensure Climbing Centre equipment storage areas and space is clean, safe and organized
- Provide First Aid/CPR, if necessary and complete Incident/Accident Report Forms in a timely manner.
- Other relevant duties as assigned
Qualifications
- ACMG Climbing Gym Instructor Level #1 or higher, or equivalent certification
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR level ‘C’
- Recent Police Record Check with vulnerable sector
- Excellent communication, organization and inter-personal skills
- Experience working with children and youth is an asset
- Must love climbing!
Terms of employment
Hourly wage: $19-24/hour (dependent on experience and certifications)
