Cheer Jan 2024 at Vikes Active Living

Cheer

UVic Vikes Cheer is a competitive all-girl level 7 university cheer team with a focus on routine development and skill building.

Competitions they regularly attend include; the University World Cheerleading Cup Championships (Florida), B.C. Provincials (various locations), Sea to Sky International Cheerleading Championships (Vancouver), as well as 1-2 others in B.C. depending on the year. The team may potentially travel to the Cheer Canada Collegiate National Championships in lieu of Worlds in future years. The cheerleaders attend promotional and community philanthropy events throughout each year along with cheering on the Vikes Men's and Women's Basketball teams at 2-3 games a semester in traditional game-day activities (crowd cheers, half-time shows, etc.).

We are looking for athletes able to commit to both our vision and the program's requirements, including mandatory attendance at practices, games, and fundraisers. To achieve our goals, we will be practicing 2-3 times per week (not including game days). Most of all, we are looking for a fun and enthusiastic group of athletes, so together we can develop, share, and advance our passion for cheerleading.

This club is a great opportunity to meet people and get involved in the sport of cheer.

Tryouts for the Vikes Cheer Team are open to all UVic students and are held in May and early September. Cheerleading experience is an asset but not a requirement. Cheerleaders are expected to schedule their classes around the practice times determined by the coaches. For more information follow us on Instagram @vikescheer or email us at uvicvikescheer@gmail.com.

Additionally, there are yearly fees of approximately $2000 for Worlds athletes and $1000 for non-World athletes. This includes competition fees, hotels, and travel to B.C. competitions (flights to Worlds are separate), and team practice t-shirts. These fees are split into 4 payments through the academic year and can be paid directly through the CARSA Membership Services desk. Athletes are provided with 2 competition uniforms, poms and cheer props.
